In Loving Memory of Betty Lou Gilmore
October 25, 1956 – July 21, 2025
With hearts full of love and gratitude, we celebrate the beautiful life of Betty Lou Gilmore, a devoted wife, beloved mother and grandmother, cherished sister, and faithful servant of Christ, who peacefully entered eternal rest on July 21, 2025.
Born on October 25, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan, Betty was the treasured daughter of Douglas Steven and Peaches Webb, who welcomed her into the world with joy. From an early age, Betty's heart belonged to Christ, and she carried that deep faith with her throughout her life, radiating compassion, strength, and grace to all who knew her.
Betty was educated in the Detroit Public School system and proudly graduated from Northern High School, where she made lifelong friends and began her journey into adulthood. She went on to build a remarkable career, holding positions at Blue Cross Blue Shield, Trapper's Alley, and eventually retiring in 2020 from Greektown Casino, where she served in management. Betty’s work ethic was only matched by her unwavering commitment to family and community.
Family was the cornerstone of Betty’s life. She was a devoted mother to her one and only son, Damon Harris, and a loving maternal figure to Trevis Carter, whom she nurtured with deep affection. Her heart found its perfect match when she married the love of her life, Danny Gilmore, with whom she shared years of laughter, partnership, and unconditional love.
Betty’s passions brought joy to all who surrounded her—she loved to cook, travel, and lose herself in the rhythm of good music. Whether attending concerts, catching a stage play, or simply spending quiet evenings with family, Betty made every moment count. She especially cherished time with her grandchildren and was their most faithful supporter—whether it was a game, recital, or school event, Betty was there, cheering the loudest with pride shining in her eyes.
Her bond with her grandson, Joshua Carter, whom she lovingly called her “Big Baby,” was especially tender and deep. Betty raised him with care and unwavering love, creating memories that will live in his heart forever.
Betty was preceded in death by her beloved mother Peaches Webb, her cherished daughter Trevis Carter, and her dear sister Nadine Webb. Though their absence was felt deeply, Betty remained strong, holding her family together with grace and courage.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and faith to be cherished by her husband, Danny Gilmore, her son and daughter-in-law, Damon Sr. and Rochelle Harris, her sister Yvonne Renee Webb, her adoring grandchildren Ciara Nixon, Damon Harris Jr., In’Dia Harris, and Joshua Carter, and her precious great-grandchildren, Isaiah Connors and Ivan JaCarr Nixon. Betty’s memory will also live on through a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, extended family, and countless friends whose lives she touched with her kindness and warmth.
Betty Lou Gilmore’s life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and family. She fought A Good Fight and ran a Great Race. Her spirit will forever be a guiding light in the hearts of those who had the honor to know her.
“Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord.”
– Matthew 25:23
