Marvin Wade Obituary

Marvin Cecil Wade, 86, quietly passed away on October 22, 2020 at home in Detroit, Michigan with his wife, Argylie and oldest daughter, Marlaine, by his side.

Marvin was born in Bluefield, West Virginia on October 8, 1934 to the late Clarence William Wade, Sr and Della Rosa Wade Watkins. The middle of five children, everyone had a nickname and young Marvin would try to imitate his father’s limp with a little hop causing his siblings to call him Peter Rabbit.  Soon he would be forever known as Pete.  Marvin was raised a Christian and spent his childhood years at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Bluefield, West Virginia where he was a Junior Deacon. He graduated from Park Central High School and on to Bluefield State College where he studied Biology. It was there that he would one day see a young lady on campus who would capture his heart.  He would say, “If I could have that girl, I wouldn’t want anything else in the world!”  Would his wish come true?

After leaving Bluefield State, Marvin began working at the Norfolk and Western Railroad in Bluefield, WV as a brakeman. Then in 1957 he was drafted into the army and had a chance to travel the world where he was stationed in Germany for two years. After leaving the army, Marvin followed that young lady from Bluefield State College to Detroit, Michigan and in 1960, his wish came true when he married Argylie Price.

He started out in Detroit working as an institutional worker at Eloise Hospital and eventually moved on to Lafayette Clinic. Next, he worked for the City of Detroit as a civilian tow truck driver. His true passion had always been in criminal justice where even as a young boy he proudly held the position of safety patrol. In 1968, he went back to that passion and started his career with Wayne County Sheriff’s Department where he began as a Sheriff’s Deputy with the Wayne County Jail, then Road Patrol, and the majority of his career at Wayne County Metropolitan Airport until retirement as a Corporal in 1995. During his career he also went back to Wayne County Community College and earned his Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice.

Marvin became a member of Trinity Community Presbyterian Church where he was very active over the years. He served as a Deacon and held the position of President of the Deacon’s Board for two years. He also served on the usher board and participated in the annual Trinity Men’s Day Breakfast for many years. He was awarded Trinity Man of the Year in 2010.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step father, George (Poppa) Watkins, brothers, Clarence and Ronell, sister Marion Witcher (Melvin), mother-in-law, Elizabeth Price, brothers-in-law, Thornton Price, Robert Price, Joel Price, and James Price, and sister-in-law Odessa Willis (Paul Wayner).

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Argylie, daughters Marlaine Cecile Wade of New York, and Leigh Odrian Carter, Son-in-law, Chris Carter, one and only grandson, Christopher Wade Carter of Maryland; sister, Drexel Greene (Floyd) of Versailles, KY; two sisters-in-law Rovena Ward of Brockton, MA, Patrelia Lewis of Canton, MI; brothers-in-law George Price of Washington, DC, Johnnie (Gwen) Price of Centreville, VA, Richard Price of Bluefield, WV, Garland Price of Upper Marlboro, MD, Kenneth (Bernetta) Price of Beckley, WV, Jeffrey (Lois) Price of Frederick, MD; his nephew, Damon Lewis, who lived with them and consistently helped care for him, along with a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

We rejoice that he finished his race well and is safe with Jesus now and forever.

See you soon Marvin, Pete, Daddy, Papa!
